Token holders can delegate their votes to any address of their choice or to Safe Guardians. The current delegation system requires full delegation of voting weight, partial delegation is not possible.

Delegation does not restrict token holders from voting themselves; in the event of token holders exercising their voting rights, their vote takes precedence over any vote cast by their delegate.

Intro to Safe Guardians

Purpose and definition

Safe Guardians are governance delegates who are well familiar with the Safe Ecosystem. Safe Guardians are active members of the Safe community, who have verifiably proven their commitment to this vision. Guardians steward the Safe ecosystem and protocol, and align with our vision to drive the adoption of smart contract accounts. They are mission-aligned and likely to be actively participating in governance.

The role of a Safe Guardian

As outlined here, Safe Guardians are expected to regularly

and occasionally

Guardians are encouraged to be actively involved in discussions on the SafeDAO forum. A Telegram group is available for informal conversations among Guardians. If you are a Guardian and have not yet joined the Telegram group, please reach out to the Safe team.

Who are the Safe Guardians?

As part of the inauguration of SafeDAO, an initial group of delegates was chosen by the Safe Ecosystem Foundation. The selection was based on volunteering recipients of the Ecosystem Airdrop. This criteria was chosen to prevent having the initial delegates be primarily derived from popularity of candidates. All recipients of the Ecosystem Airdrop have a proofable record of contributions to the Safe Ecosystem, which qualifies them to represent other Safe Token holders in the governance process.

As part of Volume 1, a total of 25M Safe tokens was allocated to 144 Guardians. Both vested and unvested Safe tokens count towards each Guardian’s voting power.
